Story of A Baloch Drug Lord: friend and foe of US
Whenever a person hear the name of Afghanistan many things
start revolving around in mind
I.e.Explosins in Kabul,Sucide attacks in Kandahar and
slogans against the foreign interventions.
But one thing is more notorious about Afghanistan that is
Drug trafficking, Heroin smuggling and the Heroin king pings attach to it. The
drug lords established huge empires and businesses: thanks to the huge growth
of poppy. One of the most notorious man was Jumma khan M.Hasni,a Baloch Drug
lord.
Jumma khan is ethnically a Baloch,which makes 2% of Afghanistan’s
population. Khan belongs to the
Mohammad Hasni tribe which lives in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran.
Juma Khan, born in
Nimroz province of Afghanistan. He established his heroin labs in Baramcha
along with Pakistan’s Border. The Baluchistan border area between Afghanistan,
Pakistan and Iran is one of the most remote and lawless places on Earth. Two
hundred thousand square miles of desert sand
dunes are broken only by spindly granitic
eruptions; the ethnic Baloch and Pashtun tribes that control the area are
heavily armed and have been involved in various kinds of smuggling for
centuries.Bramcha,A Bordery area between
Pakistan and Afghanistan was the strong hold of Jumma khan Hasni. He
established relations with Taliban in 2001 and developed its Drug business. He
had been the drug King pin in Afghanistan since 1990.in Bramcha, his guest
house was the Main point For Taliban operations. Taliban leaders usually stayed
in his home and planned Operations.Haji always served them with open heart;
Dinner and lunches were usual. Some believe that Taliban got large cache of
Ammunition and other explosives from Mr. Khan.
Jumma khan made a huge money from Drug buisines.He
cultivated million of tons of poppy and then processed them in Heroin and in
another Drugs. He built underground bunkers to save the huge pile of Drugs. He established
many labs of Drugs to expand his business. But Drug trafficking was the major
source of his income. Managing caravans with human resource and weaponized them with heavy ammunition and then send them
in neighboring countries was the target of Mr. khan. Smuggling through cargo
fleets and then further export them in Pakistan Iran and Middle East even to
the western countries Made khan a notorious Business tycoon.
Along with Taliban Jumma khan had relations with other Drug
kingpins and politicians in Afghanistan, Iran and pakistan.In Chaghi, the rich
district of Balochistan in terms of Mineral resources he offered a politician
to buy a huge area of land for him. The man belongs to his tribe.Chaghi is the
main route for drug trafficking between Afghanistan and Pakistan.Jumma khan
presented a huge sum of zakat to Taliban leaders ,and in return he made his business save. Protection of Drug routes,
labs and opium popy fields was the duty of Taliban comrades.
But the strange thing is this that Jumma khan was also an
ally of USA in Afghanistan. According to New York times, Juma khan was a long informer,
who provided information about Taliban, Afghan corruption and other drug
traffickers.CIA officers and drug enforcement administration relied on him as a
valued source for years."Mr khan also flown to America and held Meetings
with CIA officials and also was paid a huge sum.Jumma khan also worked with
Wali karzi,Brother of the then president of Afghanistan, to take the control of
Drug operations.
Then, one day in 2008, Mr. khan called for meeting in
Jakarta Indonesia By US officials and then arrested and was taken To USA.He was
charged with Anti terrorism Acts and Narco Acts.According to one American
official"The arrest of haji Jumma Khan is another important step in the
continuing effort to fight terrorism by stopping the flow of Narcotics proceeds
that help fund the Taliban and other terrorist organization.
Mr. Follis the then Country Attaché and lead advisor to US
Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan made relations with Khan and arrested him.for
this purpose he hanged two years with him and gain his trust.According to
Follis,"we first met him in his favourite resturent in sheraz.i remember
he had troubles fitting to doors.He was a well eater;consumed 20 kababs in one
session and i just 2.He was personal and charming.He constantly played
with a string of prayer beads.Being a
religious man he performed seven Hajj.ocassionly ,he took me to the Mosque
where i prayed God and he to Allah.
one day i called him in jakarta Indonesia i told him that i
had been promoted to counter a drug mission in Iran,and we would assist
eachother overthere.At the airport when, he arrived off the plan he picked me
like a doll and kissed me on cheek. He was arrested before being flown to
USA,where he has been in jail since 2008.i had many emotions at the airport
spotted him after his arrest and our eyes met.He had expressions of disbelief,
and i felt ashamed hide behind a pillar
and didn't want to look him again.
Jumma khan enjoyed his life with huge money. He enjoyed the
company of Americans and Talibans simultaneously. He traveled USA and many
other countries as his caravans supplied the drugs to that markets.Though jumma
khan was a Drug lord but he was a kind person having a charismatic personality.
Having a strong personality, he got a well respect in his tribe. Khan was very
generous and helped poors.He raised his life out of poverty first from property
Business and then from Drug's income.He has 14 wives and 24 children.
